more head/intake

i hear a lot of people running the explorer h/i whats the best bang for my buck

i want to eventual go with a turbo so im not looking to get uber horsepower out of h/c/i just something better than stock, plus before i get into the new fuel system and a turbo i know i will need to clean the engine and replace some of the gaskets which im sure i have many bad ones so why not get some new parts while im at it

i dont have a big budget so i will be most likley be buying in sections so looking for the best head / intake combo for my buck

if an explorer what years are best ?

im not against used partsor buying parts and getting them ported
i know what porting is but its foreign to me not totally clear on it

and should i go with a custom cam i see a lot of people referring to cams by 'jay' ? again im not looking to spend 2400 on some whole top end kit or too make gobs of power just a tested good combo for a kid on a budget

Exploder intake , gt40p heads/matching springs OTS Anderson cam

Do not put money into the p heads.....Find some ready to bolt on and get a set of springs to match the cam.

the only thing i would take off an explorer is the heads...then i'd do the springs and a matching cam like mustank said. try and find an used intake that's better

i'd look for an edelbrock performer, holley systemax, maybe a trick flow...check out all the forums like corral.net and mustangforums.com etc. and ebay...spend your money wisely look into everythihng. dont forget roller rockers, valve springs, head bolts, gaskets all that stuff

If you plan on going turbo, don’t waste your money on upgrading the top half of your motor unless you are going for 500+ pony’s right out the gate and will be upgrading your block soon. A mild twin turbo setup will make enough power to split the block without any help from HCI. Most turbo people just do a bottom end fresh up and run it, until the need for more power grabs them and they end up going to a aftermarket block and build some 1000+ HP monster lol. I am working my way there myself

8 psi through any decent size turbo is alot for a stock fox. If I could, I would get a decent intake manifold, a nice size tb and maf, a turbo kit, a bcam, and freshen up the motor. You'd be suprised that, that combo will make some serious power... as crappy as the cam is.

I ported a set, I sold them before I could take them to get flow tested, but I got a gain of just over 2 tenths.

F-cam is not a blower cam..... Should be a paper weight.
