CAM Help

Ok well my buddy has a 87 gt now he has never tore down the block or anything. Well a couple nights ago he raced another all stock 87 GT. Now the one he raced beat him off the line but my friends car started to pull in the mid range. Now he is telling me that it has a mid range cam. Now i can be wrong is there even such a thing. He has a MSD blaster, BBK cold air and a complete flow master set up and also the high flow racing cats. Now could there be a cam in that car. It def does not have a high lift cam that is for sure.

There is no way to tell over the internet. Does the car have any lope at idle? If not its probably a stock cam. Beating another car on the street doesn't mean anything. Faster cars lose to slower cars on the street all the time. There are alot of variables on the street. Let him think he has a "mid range cam".

Well If Its A 87 Then Its Speed Density So It Cant Have Much Of A Cam If It Even Has One Because Speed Density Cars Wont Idle With A Cam Unless You Tune It..

SD cars can run cams.. They just can't run any that mess with the engine vacuum too much because the sd system runs off vacuum unlike the maf setup.

I'd be willing to bet it's a 3/4 race cam... those really pull hard in the mid-range.

Speed density cars need cams with a higher lsa. Wouldn't the higher lsa create more of a stock sound at idle? Maybe he does have a mild cam?
