Steering Issue in my 351 build

Well my steering wheel is not straight when the wheels are lined straight. So I tried to fix that today. Could not get it done.

Another issue is, the car will turn really hard to the right (passenger side) but wont turn to the Drivers side much at all..

Anybody had a similar issue? the wheel has been like that since I put in my K member and had the rack off... Any remedies?

When my tires are straight, the 12 o'clock on my steering wheel is at about 2 o'clock. It's annoying but it's been like that since I bought it and I've never really looked into fixing it...

Justed searched on google and came up with something about setting the toe by screwing the tie-rod end sleeves and running the tie-rod ends in or out.

Did you have the car aligned after you put your k-member in? If not, that is the first thing you need to do because that is your problem.

No, my car doesnt have an engine/ tranny in it yet... the K member is lined up and straight though, I have had the stock K member down and put back up prolly around 7 times. And the Team Z went up with nothing out of the ordinary on that. The steering rack though has never done this...

I think i may have your same problem, I pulled my steering column to put my quadrant in, and now that I remember, the wheels were cocked, well i moved the wheels in by pushing one wheel in, but my column was locked, so now it only turns to the left a little bit it seems.

of course the k member is gonna be lined up. look at it like this and i think you can follow.

1. your steering rack has never done this
2. you put in a tubular k member
3. your steering is messed up now.

I don't think it's k member related. I will do a back yard alignment though and see from there... Might just buy a manual steering rack. I'll see what comes from a tape measure alignment.

No, its not realated to the K-member. Was your rack centered when you installed it or was it a half a turn or so to one side or the other? Either way it needs an alignment. I wouldn't worry about the tires or anything pointing straight right now because it doesn't matter. You can't drive the car anyway. Once you get everything else done on the car then take it down for an alignment.

yeah do a tape measurement, atleast that would show if it's totally screwed up.

I saw some flaming river manual racks and knuckles going for 259 for wholesale on ebay.

Take the steering shaft off with the wheels straight. Straighten your steering wheel, while everything is straight, put the steering shaft back on.

Tried that... doesnt work, and it still does not let me turn to the left very hard...

Im not worried about my steering wheel not being straight (its a race car) but I am worried about not being able to turn left very much... Would an alignment cause that issue too?

Matt

I dont remember how it was when I took it off.... Ill look at some of my pictures, but my guess it it was either locked all the way to once side...
