overdrive not working. any advice?

I got a 93 5.0, its an auto. Im guessing its the AODE trans? could it be anything else? It couldnt be a c-4 could it? Anyways my overdrive isnt working and i dunno why. Its been broke for awhile and I have to put the shifter down one more notch cause when i run it in the normal drive position its slips when it goes into overdrive. It does not slip in any other gear and the fluid level is normal. Im guessing its something electronic. If somebody could point me in the right direction that would be great.

The 93 auto is an AOD, 94 is when they went to an AOD-E. So its not electronic. Sounds like the OD clutch band(s) are worn out. The stock OD bands are not that great. My 92 did the same thing, OD was just like neutral. I still drove it for a few months afterwards until drive (3rd gear) went out too. I got lucky my car was still under warranty so I took it back to the dealership & they fixed it, they said the bands were burned up & also claimed it needed a new converter but I think that was BS & the converter was fine & that was just so they could jack up the cost which I didn't care since it was covered under the warranty. Think I read somewhere a long time ago that if you manual shift from 1st to 2nd then pull the shifter back to 2nd so you can hold 2nd gear as long as you want will actually cause excessive wear on the OD band. I did this quite often when I had the AOD. I also had a shift kit installed about 6 minths or so before OD went out.
So it sounds like to me that you will need the OD band or bands replaced & whatever else goes with that repair.

I guess ill cross my fingers and hope it holds out until I can get a new tranny that can take some abuse. besides id like to have a full manual vavle body. all my other gears work so im cool with that. Kinda sucks to only be able to go 60 on the highway.

Your overdrive shit the bed. Very common on the AOD.
