would it be worth it to put a radiator

in my mustang? Ive got a basically stock engine with a stock radiator and it needs to be replaced. The car has 111k miles on it and it runs kind of hot , though its still in the "normal" part of the meter.

could the car benefit from a better radiator? ie run cooler=better

thank you all for your kind help

I believe if your radiator starts running hot then that is only going to lead to more problems down the line.

A bigger "better" radiator will give you a better heat removal capacity, it will not directly make the car run cooler though.

My theory, if the stock style 2 core brass/copper rad worked for the last 20 years, another cheap (about $100-120) stock style 2 core should last 20 more years

I say do it. They only run about $250 for an upgraded one off of American Muscle and you can easily install it yourself. A Mod is a Mod and that's always a good one. Do you have an electric fan? I would invest in one of those as well.

electric fan, new thermistat, and a oem replacement radiator should cool things down.

I just thought maybe that since its a older car with 111k miles, it may be wise to get a better radiator...

I dont have a electric fan, if you mean a seperate fan with a on-off switch or something, but the radiator has fans on it.

Ill probaby just get a stock replacement then...

it ran cooler when I got the car (got the car with 47k on it I think).. when it got older it just started running a bit hotter... and the oil pressure went down too I think...a little..I guess its cause things just loosen up with age?

thnx all who replied

!! maybe its cause the radiator is a old piece of shit and it is clogged??

first off get a real temp gauge!

but yes its always good to be safe when it comes to cooling your stock radiator could just need flushed but if you have the money go ahead and upgrade it now cause you will have to later..

i just bought this kit last week for my car and i love it! the best deal i have found.

eBay Motors: Aluminum 3 ROW 1980-89 90 91 92 93 Mustang Radiator and (item 180344695573 end time Apr-15-09 00:39:44 PDT)

if you cant see it let me know

wow, tahts big block cooling, it may be overkill for my engine, but well see. thats expensive too

damn, but you think I should get something a bit better than factory ? its a stock engine, and I dont plan on doing any major work to the engine that suffices a real big radiator.

well see I guess.........

btw, my radiator not only may it be cloged,b ut its got a big gump of solder where I soldered a crack haha hey it works right now haha

Aluminum radiators are nice. Much lighter than the copper/brass radiator and better cooling also.

you cant ever have "overkill" when it comes to cooling. if your ever worried about your cooling system its proly not good enough.

buy it once. you may not mod your car but you might.. one less thing to buy.

can you have underkill? haha cause thats what I have on my car right now!

so Ill check this out, thanks to all for the replies. I think though you can find a oem replacement for less than 180. you can certainly find one less used, good condition at a yard.

Not that I want to put a used radiator on my car. But if I sell it, I may do just that.

I just put a two row aluminum rad in a buddys 89 gt this past weekend from artsparts over on corral.net. The thing was light, had great welds and she cools amazing. We were both pretty surprised honestly. It was well worth the money because prior to that he had a dual core fms brass rad and with the turbo it just wasn't able to keep the car cool enough for stop and go traffic so we were kinda hoping this new rad would help a little but it pretty much cured the problem all together.

It's cheap in price but very well made and the seller is a great guy so I figured i'd post it up to save a few of you guys some money because i've spent some cash over the years with Art and never had a problem.

I'll be putting one in my dd and my turbo car when I get funds
