Another MAF Question....sorry.

Hey guys, sorry to ask more questions about MAF's But i did some research and took mine apart to see exactly what size it was. B/c on the Mass air sensor it has the Ford logo on it and i googled the numbers and it says its from a 93 Cobra. But heres the thing I was guessing that the guy before me bought the MAF conversion kit from Ford racing ( Cobra Kit )B/c he has Ford 24lbs injectors, the Cobra computer and this MAF. But i figured eh what the heck ill check the size of the meter ( even though the cobras came with 70mm Meters ) Well i took it off just now and measured it and its 80mm Meter. So what im guessing is that maybe he used the Sensor he got in the kit and then bought a 80mm Ford MAF meter? Is that possible?

The thing is if it is possible my real question is this. I bought a A9P computer and wanted to swap them. but with doing so i was afraid the MAF ( 70mm )was to small. now that i found out its 80mm will it work ok in the swap? Im asking also b/c im not sure if the sensor matched the 24lb injectors or if its just that darn cobra computer that fools it and lets you run 24lbs. So when i swap computers am i screwed or will it run fine? or will the A9P computer/MAF think its still on 19 lb injectors and run like shit or mess something else or hurt my car? Sorry but i need some help. Thanks guys for any and all advice. - Joe.

Who knows where that sensor came from. As far as the computer swap goes, your thinking is backwards. The computer doesn't trick anything. The computer is programmed as to what injectors the engine has when it leaves the factory. Cheap aftermarket mass air meters trick the computer into thinking there is less air coming into the engine so the computer calculates a smaller pulsewidth and delivers less fuel. Alot of the Mustangs out there with driveability and idle issues can attribute there problems to aftermarket mass air meters fooling the computer. If you put the A9P computer in you will need 19lb injectors or a tune if you keep the 24lb injectors.

thereare 3 ways to calibrate, or "trick" the maf or a9l.

Edit transfer function tables in the computer(best)

recal voltage in the meter(second best)

change sample tube dynamics to channel alterd airflow over the sensor wires(least best)

Its almost impossible to make just a maf perfect with out testing it thru a whole range of cfm/voltage. so we rely on aftermarket companies to do it for us. I would never mix stock meters from diffrent stock cars. too many varribles.

Well will it even be possible to drive. Example. If i switch the computer and then go straight to the tuner? Or will it not let it start, what will it do? B/c if i could i would just do that b/c i want to tune it anyways.

If not what do you suggest i do?

I'm sure you will be able to drive it but it will run like shit.

Its going to run rich. The idle will probably hunt and surge. It will performer like crap at all rpm ranges and throttle positions.
