1990 f150 5.0l Swapped to a Fox

Hello all. I recently picked up my first fox-body mustang, 1985 t-tops hatch, no motor, transmission, or rear end. A friend has a 5.0l 302 out of a 1990 f150 that he is willing to sell me for a good price. motor only has 15k miles on it. Will this motor fit like a stock 5.0? if not what is needed for the conversion?

Ya you will need to convert a few things like the daul sump oil pan, the headers might need to be replaced because the angle of the exhaust on mustangs is differenet, basicly the headers might not fit. I cant be shure about the transmission though

i dont reccomend putting an f150 tranny in a mustang...=/

you will need new headers most definately. the ones you have might fit, but they wont bolt to any mustang mid-pipes. On top of that your oil pan and picup will need to be replaced. Intake manifold, replace that with a mustang manifold. Depends on wether or not the engine is EFI or Carb. A 1990 should be efi. You can get all the exhuast components used for about $500-$600, unless you get aftermarket pieces. The rear end should be about $600 or $700 if you buy it used. That f150 should have one.. You'll need a tranny, that should be about $2K, a driveshaft ($500).

I'll assume it'll cost about $3-5K to put that motor in that fox considering you dont have anything but a motor and a shell. Your missing some key components, such as a tranny, and a rear end. And then im not even sure if you have any kind of suspension on that car or not. Sounds like a big project. Unless you buy everything used which personally, some things i wouldnt, you're looking at spending some serious cash. It might be cheaper to buy a used mustang.

Already got an 8.8" with 3.55's for a rear, just have to go pick it up. The Engine is EFI, but headers and oil pan are no big deal. I have a donor car in the works for the transmission and suspension components (along with the newer style front end conversion), but thats not official yet.

I thought that the truck 302 and the Mustang 302 were different?

It's my understanding that the trucks use bank fuel injection versus the mustangs sequential, the firing order is different, the pistons aren't forged, you don't get roller everything, etc, etc.

Basically, I thought the truck block was the non H.O. motor?

I had a 92 f150 the 302 is a roller engine with bank firing on the injectors. I converted mine over to mas air flow.

Mass Air conversion is a pretty easy mod IMO. And if you have the motor and the rear i'd say do the swap providing you have the cash to get a tranny and the car's body has suspension.

Suspensions all there, granted its not bolted to the car, but it is there. Going to start pulling the motor out of the truck after work today. transmision should be easy to find, mustang parts are cheap as hell around here. So i'll need to convert to mass airflow as well as go to a dual sump oil pan & pickup, new headers, and intake manifold? Shouldn't be two bad.
I like the truck 94cobraclone, i love stepside pickups. A friend of mine has a '54.

where do you find your prices? used parts shouldnt be anywhere near that, rear end 300 tops, exhaust headers 200 tops for stock style headers, intake manifold, people give away stock ones here, a t5 can be had for the cheap and what kind of driveshaft is 500 an aluminum one is 250.

Can always rebuild the t5 out of the donor car, only thing is i don't know what the gearing is. I'll more than likely go with a stock intake for awhile, trick flow in the future. Just want to get it on the street for now.
