Most people would say go to the junkyard and pick up a GT40 or a Cobra. I say, save the hassle of finding one in the junkyard, cleaning it and porting it to even flow remotely badass numbers. Save all of the hassle. FOR you, a dam near bone stock car, you would see some HP gain in a trickflow street/track heat intake, or a holley systemmax. however, a man once said "Building a car isn't just one item, It takes several parts to go" If you change the intake, you mise well change the throttle body, then if you change those two items, you mise well add some sort of cold air intake(perferably a anderson ford motorsport piping) and if you change that, you mise well get a mass-air sensor to keep up with all that good stuff you just added. Then, you're heads are going to be dying for air. In all reality... I say, WAIT until you can afford a (Heads, Cam & Intake) kit. This is just me though, carry on.

just go to the junkyard and find an explorer intake, it makes a bit of difference and if you plan on keeping your car under 300hp it will work just fine.

I agree. Explorer intake is a good deal for the price paid.
I have an extra one that I won't be needing. 100 bucks+ shipping and you can have it. Its been cleaned pretty good. Soaked it in Purple power for a couple days, and then started to polish it, and then gave up. Just need to throw a can of engine temp paint on the upper. PM me if interested. Matt. P.S. I could also port up the lower a bit and gasket match the upper to the lower...

Stock heads cant out flow a stock intake. The stock intake flows around 150-200 cfm from runner to runner #1, and #5 flow the worst.
So... Buy heads first.

Throttle Body
Ok not exactly the same question but pretty much....and definately the same answer...Like CAMN said just changing an intake or a throttle body isnt going to help. They are supporting mods that go along with something like a H/C/I swap they are not going to net you any HP regardless of the ad that says it adds HP

you should be able to get the gt40 heads and intakes at a salvage yard fairly cheap, and with a grand you should have enough/close to enough to get them cleaned up (valve job, magnafluxed to check for cracks, etc.) new springs but then you need to figure labor also.....are you going to do the swap yourself?

All horse power referenced are via a in car dyno, but work good for comparison's sake. My first gool was 300hp with junk yard add ons. My stock 95 started with 160hp with the aode. I added the GT40p heads and explorer and went to 230hp ($500). Added LT headers ($250) and went to 235hp. Installed a tweecer ($550) and tuned the egine and tranny and was getting to 245hp. Swapped in a TKO500 and got to 265hp. Went with a warmed over 351w and first got 330hp with GT40 heads and stock headers (actual RR dyno results), and eventually 404hp at 5600rpm after extensive tuning and AFR heads and Lightning MAF. The 351w did use larger LT headers also. Hope this helps. |
