ill post a picture, but to try to describe it

its on the passenger side valve cover, and if your standing at the engine looking in its on the right side up by the front of the valve cover

i took off my radiator cap and let the car idle about 10 minuets, no bubbling
should i go longer or thgink my head gasket is fine

can driving with this heating issue warp any of my gaskets

The leak has to be coming from somewhere. Its not coming from the valve cover......well it could be but if it is you have some serious issues somewhere. You need to find the leak.

As far as running long enough, was the car up to operating temperature? If not, then you didn't let it run long enough.

ok took some pictures

i checked again for bubbles
this time i let the car idle for almost 20 minutes

i saw what looked like soap foam, i recently used a stop leak product for the radiator, so im not sure if that contributed to the foam, but when you said look for bubbles can you be any more specific

will i see the coolant bubbling like its boiling rapidly or do you mean a soapy foam like bubbles, like the head of a beer

it also looks like my coolant resivior isn't filling up when the car gets hot, seems to stay at the same place

and dont ask me why the coolant resivior is in the driver side wheel well, it was like that when i bought it, im changing the radiator and fans out and i plan on getting a 20oz billet one from summit and mounting it over by my air filter

leak comes from what i think is between the valve cover and the water pump

its a very small leak and coolant is only seen when i have been driving hard

wtf is up with this, is it normal ? resivior seems to never fill

thanks darrell and others for all your help

For starters foaming is bubbles......alot of bubbles. Due to the fact that you have a fluctuating coolant temperature and bubbles in the radiator, I'd be willing to bet you have a head gasket out. Those are two telltale signs of a bad head gasket. Time for a pressure test. You probably have a hose leaking by the intake. That is minor compared to the head gasket problem. That overflow is ghetto. Who the hell rigged that up?

I'm not sure what 20oz billet thing you are talking about....

so ill go down to my local shop and get a pressure test and see, i didnt think it would be the head gasket because it seems to drive just fine, garbage

this is the coolant tank i was talking about
Trick Flow 30004 Overflow Tank 20 oz. Round 1/4"In/Out:eBay Motors (item 370151758791 end time Feb-27-09 16:46:53 PST)

the guy i bought the car from did a lot of stupid things, he removed the stock fan shroud to put in the stupid big fan and for some reason decided to move the coolant tank down to the driver side wheel well

My work car has a head gasket out and drives fine. No symptoms at all except for the fluctuating temperature and bubbles in the radiator and fails a leak down test. I guess the gas mileage is down a bit. 25mpg versus the 30mpg that it normally gets. I've put about 5000 miles on it like this. I keep my eye on it and I'll fix it when it starts getting worse. Right now the car makes me money so down time isn't an option unless absolutely necessary. I don't recommend that anyone put a band aid on their problems like this, just giving the example that the car can drive fine with a bad head gasket.

well i have been wanting to put on some twisted wedge heads, and im not mechanically inclined enough to change a head gasket or teh cylender heads so i guess this will be a good opportunity to get the heads on and the gaskets changed

i dont want to go through this again so whats a good strong gasket to get online
i may want to turbo in the future after i finish parting on new h/c/i and i drive my car very hard
