ok so i knw my rearend is an 8.8 but what are the stock gears for it right now and how much difference would 4:10s make cause i got a ring and pinion set for free. from a buddy who used them on a 04 ranger i mean they would work right same thing?

If you have a 5 speed, I wouldn't suggest going over 3.73. a set of 4.10 gears will make 1st gear damn near useless on a 5 speed, but it can still be done, don't get me wrong. Also a set of gears changed out like that will make the seat of the pants butt dyno try to convince you that you are driving a totally different car.

Stock gears in your car are most likely 2.73s and possibly 3.08s. 4.10s will make a huge difference in the way the car drives. But as mentioned they will make 1st gear virtually useless. Expect a noticeable decrease in fuel economy as well. 3.73s would be a better choice but its hard to beat a free set of gears.
