351w bored .40 over

Will i feel much of a difference if i had my 351W bored .40 over? Im trying to figure out what i want to do. My buddy has a 302 that was just rebuilt that he said he would sell me for $200 but im not sure what to do. The only other mods i have on my 351W now is long tubes and edelbrock intake and a wolverine cam.

No, you won't notice anything from an overbore, unless the engine is in bad shape. You are only gaining 7 cubic inches boring a 351 .040. You don't bore engines for big power gains, you bore them to have a clean and true cylinder to work with.

What are your goals here?

I want something with some power but i would like to be able to drive it. I live in South Carolina so id like to be able to drive to the beach in it. (2 Hr Drive) I want more of a stop light to stop light quickness. I dont care if it can go 120mph. Thats not important.

stroke it....or keep it 351 get some heads intake and cam....

Heads, cam and intake. A well matched combination will turn it into a rocket on the street.

My Intake i have is a Edlebrock Performer RPM, DOOE-C heads from a 69 mustang and my cam is rated at .512 of lift with 222 duration on the intake and .534 with 232 duration on the exhaust. The heads and Cam i havent put in yet though.

How much money do you have to work with. I wouldn't use those heads. I'm not sure that cam is going to help you either. I'm assuming its a hydraulic flat tappet?

Yeah it is. I have about 1000 to work with. Is that cam too much for that motor?

have the heads you have been freshened up? if not just buy some good heads trick flow etc the money you would spend to freshen those old heads would be better spent in good heads. cam is kinda on the small side. .040 not going to increase power un less it has blowby now and needs to be bored

That cam is better than a stock 351W cam but not optimal. Given the dollar figure and goals, I'd look for a set of used aftermarket aluminum heads and a set of pushrods and rocker arms. Then you can use that cam that you already have. You should be able to make around 400hp with it.

351 is stronger and will make more power. what do you already have for parts headers intake dist?

351 is better......the block holds about 200 more horse power and can make it easier....there is no replacement for displacement

Everything is stock on that 351w except the intake which is that performer rpm. I have a Mallory Distributor and the ford racing oil pan for the 302 that was given to me thanks a friend that was deploying overseas.

get a compression test...should be around 150 psi
