the TPS is very fidgety, a setting on one TB might not be the same as another. One of by little screws came loose once and took me like 2 days of pulling what little hair I have out to realize that a screw was missing. The setting usually has to be very precise

he said it was running fine after the install.
So I don't know if this is applicable, I mean anything is possible. I still think he should take ol boy for a one way trip

If it's backfiring and surging that has to do with vacuum.

What affects vacuum?

Timing, vacuum lines, tps, weird idle afrs.

So pull spout, set timing to factory spec
Visual check on all vac lines (one came off on your new tb perhaps)
Set tps with a vom (can't hurt )
and weird air fuel can be from a plug wire loose, cap loose, injector plug loose, high/low fuel pressure.

Let me know

check the TPS, voltage swing should be smooth thru its movement range.

Maybe run him thru a chipper shreader. They will never find his remains. Make sure you run a bunch of wood thru it afterwords to clean out any obvious tissue and bones.

Fuck that man, don't be a dick like him. Just get it fixed and have him pay for whatever he screwed up. Having him pay to put extra parts in puts you on the same level as him.

Its easier to just cut him up a bit and toss him in with some pigs... They will eat the bones and all. Cant convict if they cant find a body.

If it is infact the TPS just fix it and tell him you got it taken care of and you just had to buy a *Insert part here* for a couple hundred to do it. I personal check will be fine...
