Which salvage stuff to buy...please help.

I was wondering what to look for in salvage yards that would be worth buying such as which 351W engines are the best scores, same with 302s. I am new to Fords and have just purchased my first FB...93 5.0 LX 5spd. Its untouched and mint condition. 100% original. Cant decide whether to leave it like that and get another to toy around with. Which brings me back to my original question...which salvage parts to buy in case I want to use them in the future? I dont have a time deadline and if I could pick up a few things as I go that would be great. I just dont know what to look for. Engines, trannys, etc. Taking all suggestions, thanks in advance.

Can't tell you what to do about leaving it stock vs getting real performance, but as far as the parts. . . .

For budget performance, look for Explorers and Mountaineers. If it's 97 1/2 or newer and 5.0, it has GT40P heads which are actually better than the GT40 Cobra heads.

The Explorer intakes are also a good buy if you can find them; a step up from stock, but not the best for absolute performance (same goes for GT40P heads).

I think 5.0 Thunderchickens have bigger throttle bodies than 'stangs. You can also modify Explorer throttle bodies to work with the Mustang linkage.

Electric fans from 3.8L engines seem to work very well for a lot of people.

That's all the nifty swaps I can think of off the top of my head, but more people will help out later.

if any of the salvaged mustangs have World Class T-5 transmission in them, those are good too.

lol i think our beater van (aerostar that lasted too long, haha) had an 8.8 trac loc and 3.55s (not sure tho). it was all wheel drive and was better in the snow than the 4x4 truck

If you have the cash to buy another car to mod, then by all means keep the other one orignal. if it is as nice as you say I know there will be a day where it will fetch a good price. Or keep it forever... Probably 96% of our generation Mustangs are either in the junkyard, close to it or modified. 15-20 years from now that car will be the a prize...To accent my modified 1993 notchback I wish I could afford an all orignal low mileage notchback to keep in a bubble for 20 years...
