mass air meter question.

So im about to finish up my gt40 intake and heads on my 93 5.0. Im a little tight on cash and not able to afford a bigger air meter. That meter is the last thing chokeing up my engine. It sucks to notice how much bigger the ports are on the gt40p heads and how much bigger the manifold is opened up compared to stock, and when i look at the stock meter it is such a small opening. Question is can i pull out my stock sensor in the meter and stick it in my 3in steel intake tube for now until i can afford a 80mm meter? Im not changing the injector size until i get the 80mm by the way. what do u guys think? Im pretty good at fabbing stuff up so is it possible to make something work with my stock sensor in a larger tube for now?

The sensor wire has to have a precisely metered amount of air to flow over it.

oh well, it was worth asking i guess. Ive seen some 76mm housings with no sensors on ebay real cheap, can I buy one of those housings and pick up a sensor to drop in it? Where can I buy just the sensor if I go this route? Looking for one set up for #24 injectors? Or would i be better off spending 300 bucks on one that will just plug in? Id like to go the cheaper route. they arent cheap.

It depends on what kind of sensor, and meter.

A C&L uses your stock sensor, and alters the air flow over it.

Others use a bigger housing with an altered sensor.
