definitley not porting my own heads but...

After reading about how tricky porting heads are and after seeing so many heads and explorer intakes on ebay that look awful ive decided i wont try porting my heads cause ill F them up im sure, but... Ive noticed on the exhaust port there is some kind of stamp that is raised on every port. I carefully flattened those out but im wondering what else i can do to pull any more power out of the heads and explorer intake that I can. What about port matching the upper to lower? I figured i could get one of those spacers and attach it to the lower and dremel and make that match up nicely and then bolt it to the upper and do the same? What about gasket matching? Do I just put the gasket up to the head and use a sharpy to draw what needs to be removed? Tell me if im off a little on my thought on this. Any other ideas to pull every bit of power out of the gt40p's, and Explorer intake I have?

Oh and what about polishing the runners? is it worth it? Will I gain any by doing this or will I just destroy the flow and make all the runners flow unevenly?

Skim over that a few times, and make sure you understand it. If you don't get too antsy/anxious and go slow you can do good work.

The heads on my car are self ported&polished and have been trouble free, only thing I did not mess with were the combustion chambers, had a machine shop put a 3angle valve job on them for 100$. So in total my heads ended up costing me 160$ (100 for 3angle job and cleaning) 60 for SA porting kit.
