just throw a 4cyl t5 in there and replace it in about 2 months from either:

a) massive third gear failure during a power shift
b) stripping gears in the trans due to the increased torque
c) shifting like its a fucking indy car.

In my drag car I have a 4cyl trans, 4.11 gears and a high revving small block.. that trans is far from optimal. Too bad Im poor and I have to use it (gently at that) just to put around for now.

Yep, just throw that 4 cylinder trans in. Great idea. The 3.97 first gear will surely be usefull and that huge gap between first and second gear (3.97 - 2.34) will surely keep the engine right in the power band..... The .85:1 overdrive is great too, might as well just leave it in 4th gear.
