chip maybe>?
I notice when I get on my 89 gt. It shifts at 4500rpms everytime. I have an auto by the way. I know the car has more in it... I would like it to go to redline. Any help is appreciated.

I would take it and get it tuned. They might be able to mess with the shift points. My auto shifts at about 5300 in first and second, then calms down a bit in third, and then will redline( if i want it to) in fourth, then as soon as i let off the gas, it will shift into 5th

No the tranny is stock I just got it put in a week ago... even with the old one it wouldn't really go over 4500. Tony how does your auto have 5 gears? i'll let it warm up and mess with it tommorow and see I can do anything with it.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong I thought the 87-93 mustang aod had 1st.2nd,3rd gears... then od as 4th..... (darrell you'd know)
I messed with it some today, if I hold it in first it will redline and in 2nd to but 3rd it shifts early and 4th is my od

Is there any way to adjust the shift points in a 89 -93 auto tranny?. Mine also shifts at 4000-4500 rpms

lol i have the same problem... 89 5.0 auto as well... pull it down into first then shift it into drive (make sure your goin over 40 mph) after it shifts into 2nd pull it back down into 1st (it will stay in 2nd) untill you want to shift simply shift back into drive whenever you want it to shift into 3rd..but be warned.. the auto that came in the 89 mustang is not strong... too much hard shifting and you will be buying another one.

also there is a modulator on the side of the tranny.. if you see it there is a little small screw in the side of it you can turn it to the right 1/4 of a turn and it'll shift a lil higher in the rpm range....(god i love working at an auto parts store!!! AUTO VALUE ROCKS!!!)

ohh and one last thing... a chip wouldnt help the computer doesnt shift the automatic in 89... (via the modulator)

OKAY, i checked it last night. You are definitely right guys. My bad. And yes, I used to manually shift my auto as well. But i found out it is slower at the track and not really good for the tranny.
