Actron code scanner questions

ok i just got a Actron code scanner from autozone for 35.00

my question is if you used this or know how too how did you do it. i found the connection under the hood to connect it too im just trying to figure out this thing. the instructions are very confusing.

any tips or a good non confusing way of doing this. like step by step instructions so i can check my codes.

this is for my 92 5.0

It'll flash your codes in a sequence. Like 3 flashes, then a pause, then 7 mroe would be code 37. Look up the code, and find what sensor is acting up.

so do i run it with KOER or KOEO. thats what i dont get. said for me to run it with KOER that it needs to be warmed up and have to rev it to 2000 rpm for 2 minutes and then turn off and start it back up in 10 seconds but it also said you can do it with KOEO but it might not get all the codes. ill read the book again and give it a shot. i gues the best way to learn is doing it youir self

BTW just incase you dint know

KOEO=Key on Engine off
KOER=Key on Engine Running

koeo is the only way I ever ran them, and all you'd need to do unless you had some drivability problem that you couldn't track down otherwise.

oh ok so if i do it that way then it should be a piece of cake. i havent drove it in a long time but last time i was driving it the CEL would flash and then go off and not come on for days.

im really just doing this cause i have to get it inspected soon and last year when i got the emissions it needed a lot for it to pass the sniffer test and it cost alot.

so im just curious to see what it has to say before i have to get it inspected and the sniffer test.

Even if the CEL isn't on, the code still gets stored in the ECU for a few drive cycles.

i cant get the damn thing to work for some reason. with this thing you got to do the 3 self tests.

#1 KOEO test
#2 timing
#3 KOER test.

i think im just gonna take it back since its not working and find something else. oy vey

It should be very simple, just plug it in and turn the key on. Will usually flash a self diagnostic code, then any codes that are stored, then the self diagnostic code again. Been a while since I checked an OBD1 car, but pretty sure that's how it goes. Hell, I've even tested a Ford like that with an ohmmeter once...
