Engine & Transmission Swap

My friend has a 90 5.0 engine with about 5,000 miles on it and is selling it to me with the transmission for $1500, and i wanted to know how hard or easy it would be to put them in my 2002 Mustang that currently has a 3.8. Will it work and how much modifying would i have to do?

I'd assume the easiest thing would be to switch it to a carbed setup and get an MSD or HEI style distributor and ignition system. That will eliminate alot of wiring and bullshit. I'm sure you could find motor and tranny mounts, not sure what kind of rear end is back there but you may need a diff driveshaft.

You'd also have to take into consideration switching from a EFI pump to a carb'ed setup.

It'd be a little less reliable than your v6, but it'd have more kick and you could say you built it.

Wouldn't be blazin fast but there's room for modification

Consider finding a rolling shell or a dead 4 cyl. fox body, could probably pick one up for 200-300 bucks. Drop that setup in there with a carb and cut some weight. Then you'd have a v6 daily driver and a fox body project car.

unless you want to do all that work, sell your v6, save that $1500, and just buy a foxbody or another V8 mustang...Like stated above, you could say you actually did it after all is said and done, but it is alot of work man. Good luck!
