Flaming River Steering Issue

Well since I could not get my steering to work, I ordered up a Flaming River Manual Rack and Pinion for 94-04 cars. Turns out that I now need different outer tie rod ends (different thread than the stock ones). I also am going to have to buy one of there steering shafts or get an adapter.

Has anybody ever had the thread issue with fox body cars? Maybe my SN95 is just different than the Fox cars.

Also anybody used the adapter rather than the whole steering shaft?

Thanks

Matt

Called Flaming River... and I have to buy a special shaft, because I used a SN95 car.

They also just told me to use a Tap on the inside of the outer tie rod to fix the issue of being the wrong thread. Hope this is correct.

But i ordered the shaft now too!

Look!!! The car turns left again!

now i just got to wait for my steering shaft from summit to come. And also got some offset rack bushings.

Then I can put the car back on the ground, and possibly take it to the alignment shop as is, or put the engine in it, and then take it to the alignment shop after the car runs...

You should have bought the kit, not just the rack. The kit comes with outer tie rod ends and the steering shaft.

Why do you want offset rack bushings? Do you need more oil pan clearance?

Bump steer issues is the reason I got the bushings. And I would have ordered a kit, if the had one for SN95 cars. But all the kits were for foxes and had a shorter wide rack and a different shaft. The SN95 shaft is a replacement from the colum back under the dash, where the kit that my friend got for his fox, was only half that to the rag joint.

I rethreaded the tie rods and set it up as stright as I can get it. And I can reuse my old bushings if it turns out I done need the off sets. Although not sure I shouldeven be worried about bump steer with the car being a drag only car, unless when I come back down on the front tires, that it will cause the car to turn its self.

The only reason for offset rack bushings is for oil pan clearance. Use a bump steer kit to correct any bump steer issues. That is straight from AJE.

Here is the kit. Flaming River FR1892 - Flaming River Manual Rack and Pinion Steering Systems or this one Flaming River FR1892D - Flaming River Manual Rack and Pinion Steering Systems or this one Flaming River FR1892Q - Flaming River Manual Rack and Pinion Steering Systems

None of those had the 1509M steering shaft I needed. I also needed a 1508 rack. I wish I were building a fox, it would have been much cheaper.

Those aren't fox body kits, those are kits for your car. 94-04. They all have the manual rack and shaft for your car. The part number is the kit part number, not the rack part number. I've used them in a couple of cars now.

Oh, well my mistake. When I called flaming river, they said that they didn't have a kit that would work for me. Must have gotten the obama supporter worker there that isnot willing to help and is there just to cause problems.
