water pump bolts

Got an 88 GT and the water pump took a dump on me. Got everything off down to the pump itself and then looked closley at the 4 studs protruding from the block and apparently the idiot who owned the car before me decided it would be a good idea to put what looks like JB Weld on the threads to keep the nuts from coming off. Tried heating them but ended up snapping a bolt. Im assuming that all of the bolts are jb welded because none of them will move. Any suggestions on how to get these out besides tap and dye or pulling the block?

why are you not considering tap and dye?

think you could drill them out?

If you have access to a Mig or Wire feed welder, take a nut and put it over the stump of the stud, and weld the nut (through the center) to the stump.

Heat will usually help break it and you should be able to twist it off.

These are a B***, and almost always one stud breaks off.

Good Luck check out this demo Removing a Broken Stud for MIG Welding | Expert Village Videos
