$6000 to spend
Alright so im hoping to have around $6000 to spend by the end of the summer
plan on getting an 89 and up lx coupe with around 100k milles for less than $2500. This leaves me with at least $3000 to spend. What upgrades should i get other than the usual gt40 heads, tune-up, and gears? definitely getting an exhaust but idk which to get so recommendations on what to get please. Thanks |

Notchback for $2500? Good luck on that one, man. The cheapest 5.0 notchbacks I see in my neck of the woods are going for $3500, and clean ones are going for $4500.

Good top end kit (H/C/I) Trick flow, rockers, depending what cam (I would go with TFS stage two, or go custom), Full length headers (I like MAC), Full length sub frame supports (weld in), Solid upper and lower control arms, Good lowering springs ( I cant help you out much here, I just went with H&R's kit), Drag lites and M/T drag slicks. And a shot of nitrous if there is any $$$ left.
I like used stuff. May smell like shit but as long as its fast enough to out run the smell you're doing good.

Um... look close for rust. I have looked at a few in my day and most in that price range have rust issues.
But i would just do heads, bolt on/ tko 500 with slicks. Really chrunch the hell out of the 60 foot and then run it to like a 12 second quarter... my .02

On a $6000 budget I could probably put together a high 11 second car.

If you have 3000 to spend after get some decent hands, a cheap manifold and a b and g turbo kit with the upgraded master power turbo. If you have a decently maintained motor theres no reason it wouldn't put out mph capable of mid 11's with some nice suspension.
Darrel... When you say 6000 and going high 11's you mean the price of the car right?

Yep. Gears, heads, intake, rockers, clutch, wheels and slicks. Done. I'd even keep the stock cam unless I had some cash left over.

i dont see where you guys are finding CLEAN notches for 4500.... i have yet to see 1 that passes my standards for being clean.
![]() 1. no rust 2. body panels alligned 3. not twisted 4. well kept. low and behold i might wind up spending 8000 on a completely clean well maintained garaged all its life notch. That is well documented from its purchase from the dealer years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() stock as shit ofcourse... you dont want a car beaten up by 5 j/o's |
