Gears install

I have called every shop in southern Nevada to get quote's on the cost of a gear install and the lowest i have found is 350$ for labor. Is this too much? people online are tending to say you should be paying 200-300$ or so.

Anyone know a good place in Nevada? Should I attempt doing this myself instead and just read up? The most work I have done on a vehicle is Carb, long tube, etc install's. Nothing major.

350 isn't the worst I've seen. If your not really mechanically inclined I wouldn't suggest that you do it on your own. Keep looking around but if you have to it's not a horrible price.

Depends on where your located. If you are in the Las Vegas or Reno area (big city areas) the labor costs per hour are pretty high compared to smaller cities. Its like that all over the country. Big city = higher cost.

there is an advantage to getting them done that way if they whine or something you can make them fix it for free

Holy shit, my ford dealer only charges me 150 for the job lol.. The DEALER!

What's so hard about shimming? Lay some mesh paste down and see where the gear rides.

go do it then, its not just lay the paste and see where it sits, you have to shim the pinion, preload the pinion, if you mess those up you have to pull it all apart and start over

Yes.. I know u have to re shim it until it rides right in the middle.

Honesly, I will do a bunch of work on my own cars.. but there are two things I will let other people do.

1) put clutch quadrants in
2) put gears in because the smell of 100k old nasty gear oil makes me sick
