Radiator Recommendations
My buddy has a 93 Fox with a 306 under the hood. He is running the FRPP radiator, but is looking for something better that will keep things cooler. He's not really pleased the the FRPP piece. Cap on price is no more than $500. Any suggestions?

I have a Mishimoto and it works great with the mods i have. It came with twin fans that i have yet to put on because it cools fine as it is. Im not sure how it compares to FRPP though. Becool radiators are also nice just a little pricey. Go to Summitt racing site and find all you want. I got my mishimoto from latemodelrestoration.com.

He's running a Ford racing aluminum radiator with a 30 and it won't stay cool? He has problems elsewhere. A stock radiator will cool any mild 306 with no problem. I had a 91 GT years ago that ran 11.50s and never ran hot, even idling in 110 degree Las Vegas stop and go traffic. Your buddy's car has an issues somewhere and its not the radiator unless the radiator is damaged.

The thermostat regulates the temperature. If he has a 210 degree thermostat, the engine will never run any cooler than that. If the fan clutch is bad or he has a bad fan, that will affect low speed cooling. If the plastic flap under the radiator support is missing, that will affect cooling at highway speeds. Get some more details from him. Find out how hot it runs now, how cool he wants it to run and why. If its still factory EFI he won't want it to run below 170 degrees or the computer will never go into closed loop. Performance and mileage will suffer.

Ok, got a response back. He said it was over heating. I didn't know about that. Before it was running fine, so who knows.
Update: He has tried two cans of water wetter, switched t-stats, even ran it with out a t-stat...still no luck. Maybe the gauge is wrong. Last edited by Black Bullitt; June 9th, 2009 at 11:34 AM. |

Find out if it when it over heats. Does it do it in the city, on the highway or both? What does the temperature get up to? Does the temp gauge fluctuate?

I'll check on those ?s and get back to you. He did say that he has a water temp gauge and just recently replaced the sending unit.

Here's his response.
"As long as I'm above 40mph, it stays cool which leads me to believe that it's the lack of cool water (fan). When I'm dead stopped, it'll go all the way up into the red w/ in minutes (220+). Doesn't fluctuate." |

Sounds like a fan or fan clutch problem.
