help overheating!!!

so the last few days my car has been running really hot and wanting to overheat...only thing that i can do to keep this from happening is to turn the heat on full blast in the floor, and the temp will go back to normal...otherwise it'll just get hotter and hotter.....any ideas??

thermostat is less than a year old so i don't think its that, but i guess its possible, and coolant level was fine.

and the thing that he said about the heat making it cool makes me think its forcing it to cycle faster there for avoiding the air pocket sitting in one place? sounds like it could be it to me.

fan clutch??
I had the same problem and it was my fan clutch...if you can turn/spin your fan by hand and there is not much resistance then you need a new one

but would that make a difference with him putting the heat on full blast and making it cool down?

I've stopped buying the cheapest ones because 2 of the last 3 were bad out of the box. I have no proof the slightly more expensive ones are any better quality but worth it to me for only $4 more.

For the temp, I use 185 or 192/195, whichever I feel like buying at the time

Placing the heat on high uses the heater core in the car to remove heat from the coolant the same way the radiator does, it is just like adding an additional small radiator.

i have a 180* thermostat in it, i dunno if i go through the trouble to take it out and test it i'll spend the extra 10 bucks and just put a new one in...i just thought it was weird that it cools right down when i turn the heat on in the floor, which i know causes the car to cycle coolant through the heater core.

Believe me...I am no expert on engines and the only reason I know it might be the fan clutch is because like I said...my car did the same thing and I also blasted the heat and once I changed the fan clutch it solved the issue.

My take on the subject is that blasting the heater will take heat away from the engine no matter what and then you just have to pinpoint why the car is over heating
