Pro Systems for the carb. Heads and cam depend on how much power you want to make and how much money you have to spend.

Get the 190 or 215 Pro Comps if you are on that tight of a budget. Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords did a write up on a low compression 408W with the Pro Comp heads 190cc as cast and 215cc CNC'd. I think the larger 215cc CNC'd head version made 505hp/489tq at the flywheel and the 190cc heads were around 463hp/480tq. They made this power with a Comp Cam XFI236HR, which is a very mild cam for a 408w, it's what I run in my 347. The write up is in the February 2009 issue.

If you love pain in the ass projects like having to do alot of fabricating, tweeking shit just to make the heads bolt on, then buy procomps.

Don't spend your money on a stroker kit then. Build a 351W and stick the money in the heads and valvetrain. $700-$900 isn't going to get you enough cylinder head to support a 408.

Don't buy junk. Stick with good heads. Trick Flow, Canfield or even AFR. Hell, even World iron heads over the pro comp junk.

For starters, magazine articles are like movies. Good entertainment. Secondly, if I had a 408 that only made 505hp I'd probably shoot myself. 500hp out of a 408 is not hard at all. We make 540-560hp out of pump gas 347s.

Pro Comp heads are junk. They have a piss poor machining process, no quality control and they come assembled with junk bottom of the barrel parts. Even if you accepted the fact that the heads flow like shit, by the time you put good valves, springs, retainers, locks, etc. in the pieces of shit you could have bought yourself a good set of heads. Then of course there are some people that will just bolt them on and be satisfied with piss poor quality and the high failure rate of the junk parts.

Trick Flow High Port or R-series with a 225cc intake port if you are doing a 408.
