Headgasket

I believe that I have popped a headgasket. At high Rpm's Im spraying coolant out of the overflow tank.

I cant remember it's been so long. How long does it take to change them by yourself? I think the last time i did it I had changed the timing chain too. So I just dont remember.

Anybody remember let me know.

Mike

It took me about 8 hours to change my heads and intake on my car. I also took my time so i could make sure everything was perfect. You could actually do it in about half that time.

Well it was coming out of the overflow, while i was messing with a camaro going down the Highway. At about 5000-5200rpm and 6psi. And then I pulled over checked it out and the overflow was all frothy and bubbles on top of the coolant in the overflow.

I would do a cooling system pressure test, or compression test. You may have boiled the coolant, do you have any leaks in the system, is the radiator cap good? is the seal good?

I had just fixed a leak in the hoses going to the heater core......The cap. i put on over a year ago......and to be honest it looked like it was boiling. i mean if i blew it wouldnt it be bubbling all the time? Or is it possible it's lifting the heads with the stock non-TTY bolts on there. They didnt switch bolts till 92 if i remember correctly.

I woulddo a coolant pressure test, and a compression test. Highway speeds, higher rpms for a longer duration could be boiling a poorly sealed cooling system, or could've popped a gasket. keep an eye on it for loss of level, and chek your oil. make sure ur not mixing.

Checked the oil and not mixing at all, used a "block tester" and it's got exhaust gasses in the coolant.
I dont have access to a coolant pressure tester I just lost my job at Midas and I did have everything available to me just kindof shit out of luck right now.

Block tester turnedcolors and i would say ur right and stangzilla- headgasket time I would do both, but u prob know that. >> also those exhaust gases will mix with ur coolant and turn to acidic corrosive liquid,<< so do it asap.

I thought that i blew a head gasket because of the bubbling antifreeze too, but turns out it was an intake manifold gasket. My head gaskets were fine, but while you are in there, might as well check those too.
