popping popcorn...noises

So, when i drive at about 3k rpms, it sounds like im popping popcorn. i dunno how to explain it better.

think of your exhaust noise/tone and make it goes "pa pappapa pa ppaaaa" or something lol.

gonna change the plugs, but if that doesnt help, what could be the causes?

when accelerating, it doesnt miss or anything. it goes strong, just when im driving and holding speed. does it in neutral as well.

sp, wi? im guessing the noise is coming from the front of the car correct? could be exhuast, check for leaks

it is ither detonating from it not being timed in correctly. or you could have the wrong fireing order on it. i would check both i gaurentee one of them is off.

timing is set at 12/13*, firing order is correct, but i might have the 2 wires on the coil backwards.

its not detonation, i know what that sounds like...this is coming out of the exhaust. maybe a vacuum leak?
