they are flat top pistons, and i just bought a holley 750 double pumper today. i was thinking if 850 is too big and 650 not enough then go with 750. im also gonna lighten the front end with a tubular k member and tubular a arms and lighter wheel and tire combo. maybe it will pull one wheel. i like to showboat. i am going to try to figure out how to post pics and put a few of the old motor on here.[/img]

the #2 piston looks melted and the #3 has a hole right in the middle. what causes this???? jump time?? to hot of a plug? old? oil pressure drop and heat i could see about the melted piston but what could of caused the hole in #3? could that of been what was causing my blow by?

Holes in pistons and melted pistons are caused by detonation. Was there a power adder on this motor at some point in time?

the person before me might of been sprayin. it had a mild cam and a performer intake with some bungs on the intake runners. it had real bad blow by since i got it and the edges of the hole were rounded like they had wore down and they were black but the melted piston looked like a brand new piston that got smashed with a sledgehammer. it overheated real bad and real sudden about 30 seconds before it locked up. so im thinkin maybe the oil pump went out and all the extra friction caused it to overheat and melt the piston? or the rings came apart and it bounced around till it shattered? does anybody know about the federal mogul rebuild kits?? comes with everything you need to rebuild a motor excluding the rods. the part number on summit is FEM-MHP174-400

I have a fed mogul rebuild in mine. Most come with cast pistons. I got mine at northernautoparts . com If you are planning on racing or adding juice save up and go forged. I am building me a better motor next winter. I had a bad lifter and some blow by so I tore mine down, it was bored .060. I know it will never hold up to any power adders so I went with the fed mogul kit just to get teh car running again. Believe me do it right the first time, you do not want to tear it back down or build another motor because you skimped on parts.

i got a block and girdles today and i got a freshly ground crank last week. now i just need rods and the rebuild kit. i am going forged now. i should have the cam somewhere within the next 2 weeks then i will buy little things i need like wires and plugs and gasket sealer. it will be a while before i get the heads. i am going to run a 4.10 rear gear with 10 inch drag radials. dont know what kind of clutch yet. if i can get everybody elses transmissions off my bench at work i can finish my C-4 i got and not have to worry about a clutch...then i gotta get a convertor. i am hoping to have the car done by july or august. i am also hoping it will run low 13's or high 12's N/A and low 12's to mid 11's with the spray im gonna hit it with.
