Question on Replacing Rear Main Seal
Hey guy, im about to replace the rear main seal for a new one ( Since the clutch and tranny are out and it leaks a little bit ) But i was wondering what seal i should go with, they have all kinds, rubber, silicone, Teflon and much more. But what would work best, or get the job done? Ive never had to do this on a car before so i know nothing.
Also should i get a 1 piece or 2 piece seal? And will i have to take off the oil pan or anything i should know of for steps or anything to help? Heres a like to the summit page with all the seals on them, but i see no 2 piece one when i type in my year ( 87 mustang ) But i dont know if i even want that. But im just asking for a little help on what i should get, and wither to go 1 or 2 piece and if i have to take off the oil pan or anything else. Sorry i always ask questions But i really appreciate the help, so thanks a lot guys! Here the link. I dont know whats good and whats junk.... Rear Main Seals - SummitRacing.com Thanks again for the help! - Joe. |

Ford or regular fel pro rubber should work fine. That teflon will probably last forever but may be easy to damage when installing it. I have no idea which one would be the absolute best for you. I have used the timken seals that autozone sells in a pinch and they hold up to plenty of abuse.

+1 You will not have to remove the oil pan to replace it. You wheel be able to get to it after you take the flywheel off. |
