whats the normal idle?

On my 89 gt it idles at say 900 rpm then after a few minutes it goes to 1000 is that normal, i like it better at 900 it has a good sound to it but when it goes p it sounds like a deep bass which aint bad but just wondering if its normal. my exhuast is ford motorports 1 5/8 equal length shorty headers, flowmaster american thunder exhaust (turndowns after muffler before axle) no cats. any input will be nice on if thats normal or if i need to change the ips or?..

Check the sticky's for idle setting, I,m not sure what the base idle RPM is actually as my car is carbed and I keep it around 700 rpm.

Mustang idle surge and base idle reset

These links might help with your wirirng issues with the dash lights, Good Luck

Like darrel said, along iwht what I was going to get at. It's wrong. My tach idles at 400-500, with a timing light on it shows a solid 750 rpm idle.

ok i already new that, lets forget i even have one... i can tell by my motor that my car idles low then higher after a few minutes or if i get on the highway when i get off it has an even higher idle and it wont go below that base idle.

i just bought the car, it sat for 4 years. its new i want to know where to start or where to look first.

clean the IAC, Throttle body, set TPS voltage. See if that works. Mine did the same as yours and I did those things and it never fixed it. Then I saw darrell's sticky and tried the salt and pepper shaker connecter thing and it solved my idle problems.
