A9L ecm

can anyone tell me the difference between computers like the a9L/a9m and what are the best ones for a mass air conversion on an 88 notchback?

a9l is supposed to have slightly more aggresive timing curves, when i pulled my chipped a9l out to sell it and threw in an a9p or a9s (cant remember) car idled better than ever, dont jump on the a9l bandwagon

one's for manual and one's for auto.. the manual a9l has slightly more aggressive timing then the a9p like mentioned above.

There are several different computers A9L, A9P, A9M. The A9L is probably the best as far as the tune they come with. Both physically I don't think there is any difference.

Your problem was either the chip or the computer was bad. The idle problem was cured because you eliminated a fault, not because you eliminated the A9L.

i still dont know what was up, the idle surged all the time but i think it was in the chip too

With an auto computer you will have to manually override the reverse lockout, but you lose the rev limiter as well. Are the tunes really different between the auto and manual computer? I was unaware of that...

I've heard that about the rev limiter before but I have not seen anything physically proving that. All of the documentation and tables I find show all Mustang computers with a 6250 rev limit. I had a 91 GT convertible that rev limited around 6200 just like all of my 5 speed cars did. I suppose it could have been valve float too. Who knows.

I know, it was from me about a month or so ago. I will do some digging and see if I can find the data that I got that from. Or someone with an auto computer in their swapped manual can hold it to the floor and see how high they can get the RPMs
