Power loss...

Ok, I posted another thread about my problems but this one may be different, hence the new thread.

My 88 runs fine until you turn right. When you turn right the damn thing dies. Turn the wheel back to the left and it is back to normal. Cant find anything that may be pinched or shorting out. It wont do it while sitting still tho. Only while driving.

Please guys, any thoughts or ideas?

That certainly is a possibility since the fuel will be running away from the pump when you turn right.

Brand new fuel pump. But it will do it even as I pull up to a stop sign and barely be moving.

This is more like it is losing power, not fuel. It just dies like you turn it off.

I remember back in the 70's this guy brought his "Cuda" to my dad and grand-dads shop with the same problem. Turned out that it was his coil. It had a short in it. But his would do it while sitting still. I even put another coil on it and it still does it.

When did this problem start? Before the fuel pump install or after?

well it has to be either the baffle in the tank or the ps pump is toasted.. so i'd by pass the ps pump with a shorter belt or just take the serp belt off all together and start the car up and quickly take it for a run down the street making sure to do what normally causes the car to die like making your righ hand turn.. if the car doesn't die then it's your ps pump but if it continues i'd prob think it's the baffle that came loose in the tank just my opinion

With all the other problems I was having Im not 100% sure. But I think its got something to do with the fuel pump. Im going to take it back out to see. I believe something just isnt right and when I make those right turns its pinching the fuel line.

Yes it does. I used to fix alot of shit from the GM and Ford shops that they couldn't figure out. Funny as hell.

UPDATE!

Took the tank back down and pulled the fuel pump and assembly out in TWO pieces ! Repaired the assembly and BINGO, it runs fine. I guess the pump was "free swinging" in the tank and when I made those right turns it was pinching off the line.
