What I did tonight.. stuck in a dillema..

Motor setup:

306 - Pistons are factory replacement style .0030.
9:1 compression
Trickflow stage 1 cam
Edelbrock performer upper and lower
65mm throttle body
stock maf and injectors

Had a bunch of valve train clatter, valve stem seals were leaky.. etc.. pulled the top end apart to have a look, so i went ahead and took it down the the short block..

Option a) send my stock e7's to the machine shop, have him clean them and put new seals in.. slap them back on and a fresh set of rockers..

Option b) Found a guy selling some gt40p heads, fresh rebuild with 3k on them, valve springs good to 560 lift, crane 1.6rrs. 480 shipped

option c) let it sit in my garage forever and my drag car will never get done.

What do you guys think I should do?

Well we all know e7 heads suck balls... now this is your daily driver but did you want to eventually go with a different head for a few ponies more or never had the intentions of modding the car? I'd say you wanted a few ponies more since you did the intake so i'd say pickup a set of p heads and it's all positives. I mean there OEM and not a huge jump in power so it's not like your reliable car will now be unreliable you know plus it would be smart to make the jump while you have it all appart.

You could always tell yourself you'd pickup a mpg or more with the more efficient heads as well

so i'd choose B no doubt but would prob shop around or jew the guy down some because you'll need new head gaskets as well and a decent set of rockers if your going to do it right

The heads come with 1.6 roller rockers.

I don't think 480 shipped for a set of rebuilt p heads, with killer valve springs and rockers is bad at all!

talked him down to 450.

My p heads are on their way!

For now I'm just going to put my stock manifolds on to clear the p heads and when I get my drag car done I'll get a set of mac long tubes to go with them

I think this will make for a killer daily setup..

around 9.5:1 compression with the p heads
gt40p
TFS1 cam
Full exhaust
Edelbrock Performer Upper/Lower
65mm TB
Intake

If I do anything else to the car, new injectors will be needed for sure.. but I think I can get by with 19#ers right now

It'll be a fun daily driver and no you won't need larger injectors yet

I have put GT40p heads on 2 different cars, and the stock headers will not work... I even put a set in a vise, heated them up, and dented the shiit out of them and they were burning through 90* plug boots on 7.. The stock headers make their turn down to soon and don't leave enough space for the plug to clear.. I don't know how you would have gotten them to work, without restricting the header a LOT....

All I know is I have bbk shorties, and I can get every plug out but cylinder 7. I have to take the header bolts out and loosen it from the hpipe. Hate the process with a passion. I dream of longtube headers.

I have BBK shorties on my p-heads also.. And they clear fine.. I had to buy them cause my stockers wouldn't work.. I tried for several hours to get them to work with no success..

I've personally seen stock headers on p heads a few times.. I dont' know how involved the process was to get them to work and wouldn't waste the time myself honestly but I've seen it done.
