tranny problems


Ihave a 86 fox body with a 87 motor and tranny when i replaced the clutch and go to put the trans back in it will not go all the way in about another inch is all i need to bolt it back in place can some one help me please

did u adjust the input shaft so it slides in the right way? Readjust thetranny and see if thats it

yes i did . i even rocked the trans with no hope i used the alignment tool and can see in the bell housing and it appears straight . the motor couldn't have dropped could it?

did you slide the friction plate onto the input shaft before you bolted the cluth to your flywheel??? 9 times out of 10 it the right clutch but theres still that possibilitie you got the wrong one. happened to me at work before so you never know

You should jack up the engine a bit, then slide the tranny back in. That should take care of it. i bet the engine dropped a bit like u said

Had a similar problem with getting the nose of the input shaft into the pilot bearing, I just started the bolts and slowly cranked them in evenly, and it went in. That was in September and haven't had any problems.

Yep I was thinking pilot bearing, same thing I went thru. Just ease the motor around until it goes in.

Put the trans in as far as you can get it. Then have someone push the clutch in while you wiggle the trans. It will slide right in as long as the input shaft splines are somewhat lined up. I've done this several thousand times. I also use a yoke off of a stock drive shaft. I stick it on the output shaft so I can turn the input shaft to line the splines up easier.

Thanks guys for the help!!!!!! i will try some of these things in the morning one way or the other i should be rolling again tomorrow will let you all know the outcome and once again thanks........i'm not a mechanic by no means just trying to save the all mighty dollar
