Timing ?
What do you guys think would be a good start as far as setting base timing on my motor?
Setup: 302 9:1 compression Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads Air Gap Intake Trickflow stage 3 with 1.7rr's Long Tubes HEI style ignition When I stabbed the distributor in to intially start it up, it was set at 24 deg base and idled very very smooth, but was very sluggish on the street. I pulled the vac line and set it to 18 deg base, and it has much better crusing manners, but the idle quality is just so so now. Would setting timing to about 20 deg base be a good balance of idle quality and street/cruise driveability? I feel that 20+deg is way too much, but with my compression and 93 octane gas would I be fine?
