Here is something else for you too chew on. The 99-02 GM 4.8/5.3/6.0/8.1 liter engines have piston slap that is so bad that you can hear it on cold start up. The engines sound like a diesel they knock so bad because the piston is rocking in the bore. This is caused by excessive piston to wall clearance in these early engines. There is a TSB on this issue (#01-06-01-022 to be exact). GM has not warranteed a single engine because none of them have had any negative issues from this piston slap. I know first hand that these engines have no reliability issues because I've owned them and put several hundred thousand miles on them. The Suburbans we use at work we run to 350,000 miles and then send them to the auction. We have hundreds of them. Never had an engine failure.

I've never heard a 347 make noise due to the pistons rocking in the bores......

No problem.. I droped off the all my parts with my builder and he is going to get to work. He said he will call me and let me know the weight when he starts to balance it all. I'll post that when I hear back from him..

Souldnt be too much longer till I can start getting this thing back together.
