Water-pump....

I think its leaking, and i just replaced it oh say about six months ago if not longer..... always my car was running when i pulled up to my house and i looked under the car., drops of water were dropping so i popped my hood to find that there was water on my water-pump any reason why? (my water pump also had turned orangish..... it was a satin finish.)

where at on the water pump? the top part? is there coolet puddled new or around your distributor? can you be more specific of where it is leaking from, not just there is water on your pump.

Steam from the vents prob is the heater core. The orange color is prob rust. If the water pump is bad then it will b leakin from the little weep hole under & behind where the pully is. See if any of the bolts are loose. I would just remove the pump install new gaskets with a light coat of RTV on both sides. Have fun changing that heater core.. If you dont drive the car in the cold weather just disconnect it. Dont forget to cap the inlet & outlet on the firewall unless you want whatever coolant is left in the core to go all over your motor when u hit the brakes.....lol... Prob not much in there though..

Why cant it be rust? The engine block is cast iron & if you dont have the correct mixture of coolant to water then it will promote rust in the block water passages. As Far as the heater core goes & someone will correct me if I am wrong I think U do hve 2 get that dash out..

Drain the system, remove the 2 hoses that go from the heater core. Block the now open passages with rubber caps & or a bypass hose of some sort 4 the water pump.. not that hard 2 do..

Like I said b4 it could be rust from the water passages in the engine block.. If it is leakin from the weep hole there will be no water on the top of the water pump. One thing that is common is if the thermostat housing is leakin it will puddle up a lot of times on top of the timing cover just behind the water pump..

If u do decide to do the heater core prelube with coolant the inside of the hoses that u attach to the heater core. I have seen cores break from tryin to twist push ect a dry hose on the core..
