Not hard to do. The book value for a 93 LX is probably about 1200-1800 depending on miles and options. Subtract your deductible and work from that. If it costs more than that to fix by a shop, it is totaled. It is normally not cost effective to have comprehensive/collision on a car with a low book value. I have a Ford Aspire with a book value of $700. If I have a 250 deductable on comp/collision and bump into something and scratch my bumper or bust my headlights, the car would be totaled.

On that note.. I'm really considering hood pins

You think about buying it back and having it fixed yourself...If you know a body man you might be able to save sometime and money. Just an idea.

That is easy to fix and is not uncommon. Buy the car back from the insurance company.

it would be easier just to buy it back rather than find a roller and switch EVERYTHING over

My drag car has suffered the same thing. Flipped up hood and bent cowl. not really that hard to fix at all. I took a small oem car jack and stuck it under the bent part of the cowl, jacked on it until about level. Tapped it lightly some more and used a small skin of fiberglass to smooth it out, looks great. Replaced the hood with a cowl hood and getting a new cowl trim piece.

Cost me (75) for the hood and (40) for a new trim piece.

Figure about 200 for a windshield, 100 in labor to put it in, new hood 300, hinges 20, cowl trim 50, and paint for cowl and hood about 400. .. little over a thousand..

Mine did the same thing, the hood bent the roof in two spots and wrecked the cowl but im gonna buy a stud welder and fix all that. It will be damn cheap, just my time.
Im sanding and re-fiberglassing the bad parts of hood now.

when you have comprehensive insurance or full coverage dont they usually insure your car up to the amount you say its worth (the more you believe its worth the more you pay for insurance obviously)? or is that only classic isurance?
