331 vs. 347

Ok so im planning on a stroker i have a 1990 302 block to use in my 95 heard the block is stronger. How reliable is the 347 i have heard they burn lots of oil and you must cut alot of metal out of the block to make it fit. Is this true or does the 331 use the same amount of oil? It is supercharged with Ford Racing alum. heads and an F303 cam. How often must i rebuild the 347 i want a quick streetable car. I dont want something i have to rebuild every 20k miles. Any input on either motor would be great Also would a set of total seal rings work better? Less oil use????

Short answer is go 347, for the long answer, dig around, this has been discussed at length several times

Oh bOY here we go again................DARRELL you have a phone call on line 1....LOL

All the crap you have heard is completely that, hearsay the 347 and 331 use the same bore .030 and there are no issues with the wristpin intersection or the ratio....it is all stuff made up by someone who was pissed they built a 331 for the same money they could have built a 347

The 331-347 is like a 2 stroke engine. U will have 2 rebuild it every 5-7000 miles or after 25-40 passes at the drag strip.. Just build a 408 all they burn is 331's & 347's... lol.. seriously though just get a 347 kit from DSS or the likes. As far as the rings go whatever they recommend with the kit that u r buying get. It is important to tell the tech that you order from what your goals are so they can set u up with the correct parts if u r not experienced enough to do so yourself..

ok sorry guys but here we go i was chatting with a local machinist who has built quite a few 347's and 331's. what he told me was that the 347's piston was much shorter than the 331, therefore the piston actualy rocks in the cylinder a lot more than a 331 would becuase of the taller piston.. just wanted to ask if you guys ever hurd of soemthing like this. i understand what he is saying, just wondering what you guys thought. he said a 347 would be a more race applicatable motor while a 331 would def be a better choice for a more streetable and weekend racer.

sorry but what you guys think?

Without getting into this stupid arguement that never ends because people that have no idea what they are talking about give advice on the subject, all I am going to say is I've had a few daily driven 347s that have seen more miles than most peoples shit box econo cars and have never burned a drop of oil. I know many people with 347s that have no issues at all. One guy has way over 100,000 miles on it and also has an S-trim with 12lbs of boost on it. No issues at all. The end.

Dish is better than flat top power wise, just mill the heads for more compression.
