How to tell if a lifter is bad..

I had some valvetrain noise in my motor.. tore it all apart and went with a set of freshly rebuild gt40p's with upgrades springs and ped roller rockers.

While it's all apart, I want to make sure to do this swap right so that dreaded ticking sound will go away.

How can I tell if one of my lifters is bad? It's a 120 $ for a set of 16 that I really dont feel like spending right now.

put a push rod on the cup and push, should have almost no slack/movement when you push, and only start to collapse when you put a good force on it.

took a push rod and pushed on each lifter. All of them took a good bit of force to make them budge but one. With the lightest pressure it would sink and didn't feel like the others.

you have one bad lifter

now you decide to just replace the one and get out cheap, or throw a new set of lifters in with the other new parts and know you are starting on a solid platform of new parts

I totally understand you there. Usually I would just replace everything with new, but right now finances are tight with tuition money coming up.

Worse comes to worse later on ill pop the intake back off and put a fresh set in.

been there done that, built my car on a 3 yr plan just buying parts here and there.

Luckily if lifters are good its a part you can slide by with fixing just what needs to be fixed
