I'm assuming its an automatic???? Is the fluid full? When you put it back in was the converter all the way in the pump? Is the converter bolted to the flexplate?

Will it go into gear with the car not running?

Does it grind when you try to force it? Does the clutch feel like it has good pedal, or too sloppy at the top of the tavel?? Seems like the clutch is still engaged, have you changed the cable since the last time you used the clutch?? retrace everything that you touched and eliminate problems one at a time. If all you did was change the clutch, and simply disconnected the cable from the fork, then maybe you didn't properly attach the end of the cable to the fork, on of my buddies had one time sandwich-nutted the cable to his fork, and the clutch would not disengage because the cable needs to pivot in the fork witha pivot nut....
