306 VS. 347 Piston Photos...............

Here I took photos of my Probe Factory stock 306 pistons and the Sportsman Race 347 piston. Yes the 347 has a shorter skirt and there is minimum clearance from the piston pin and oil ring but there is material there...

Posting these for those that have never seen a 347 piston but comment on the fact that they burn oil...

I wasn't directing that at you. I was just saying "subscribing" because I'm humored by the internet experts that have no experience building or even owning 347s but think they are qualified to give advice or criticize 347s. I'm sure it won't be long before someone posts some stupid bullshit about burning oil, pistons rocking in the bores, rod to stroke ratio, poor reliability, etc.

Moving on, so you are a narcotics officer? I'm sure that is a job that never gets boring. I started to pursue a career in forensic science but I didn't get much further than the "starting to pursue" part. My current job is just too demanding right now to have the extra time for more schooling. Its definitely the field I want to be in though.

Wow, that is very thin material between the pin and the ring. I can see where people say that 347's burn oil of that clearance is on all 347 pistons. Maybe not on a new engine but put 5k miles on that piston and I'm sure with the temp cycles that the material gets weak and flexes. If I was a bettin man I would too say the 347 piston will burn oil first and even fail first.

That is the first time I've seen a 347 piston that even had a ledge for the oil ring in the wrist pin area. Commonly they use a rail support that and then the ring goes on. I think this is a fairly new piston design. Either way, there are no oil burning or reliability issues. That is fact.

You can bet all you want, 347s don't burn oil and these pistons are not going to fail. Probe makes a very good product. If there was any chance for reliability issues these pistons would never see the market.

yeah but you dont get it, its a 347, it HAS to burn oil and be unreliable, because someone somewhere said so

LOl.. Yes drugs are a never ending issue, but I have been doing a lot more of everything lately. Drugs are fun and it is always a reward when you find a good amount! I also do Mt. bike and marine patrol.. all fun stuff too..

That is the new design piston that I posted. Like you said, this piston has material above the pin, most dont. I was at my engine builders yesterday and he had some pistons that had nothing above the pin, and it was a high horsepower engine... No blow by or oil burning...

I posted these pictures just to show those that have never seen a 347 piston and now I want to sit back and see the rumors fly!!!!
