cooling issues
I just got done doing a p head swap and i'm having cooling issues..
I started the car up with the cap off and topped it off and kept adding coolant until it started comming out the top. Put the cap on and it would stay at about 160 deg for about five minutes then it would climb quickly to 270/overheating. Where do I go from here?

it probably an air pocket. you're going to have to burp it. top off your radiator, run the car with the cap off, turn your heater on if you have one. when the car starts to warm up keep the your garden hose in the radiator and let it keep running until it stops "burping". if it starts to get too hot, stop, put the cap back on and wait for it to cool back down. start the process all over again. once you're done use the drain plug on the radiator to let some water out and add coolant. you want full strength for this part because its going to get diluted in your system. then run the engine for a while for everything to mix well, test the coolant in your system. if its too rich, drain and add more water. too diluted, drain and add more coolant

Most likely air bubble in the system. Definatley try burping the system some more.

To follow up:
That's exactly what it was guys. I ran it some more with the cap off, parked it on a slight hill to help ease the air out. Put a new t stat and cap on, voila, it stays at 170 deg all day!

That's the first thing I checked, it was in correctly.
I'm thinking the overheating was caused by a bad cap, because i stole the one off my drag car and put it on the black one, and visa versa.. drove the drag car around and got up to 220 deg pretty damn fast.. faster than it used to.
