Need help on my first mustang

Hello, i just got myself an 89 gt. Its my first muscle car. I was always into the import scene and autocross. I always owned miatas, 240sx and the classic corolla. Someone came up to me and offered a trade my ae86 for his gt. I took my dad who grew up with mustang and we made the deal.
It ran great, no problems on taking it home. That same weekend i took it for a smog and it passed with no issues. As soon payday came up today, i did the oil change replaced the air filter. I had spark plugs ready, but was getting late and needed to meet up with my buddies. Today it ran great nice and smooth, i went for gas added 7 gallons, drove to pole position when we finished at the track the car was fine, same thing after having late dinner with my friends.
Now i came home, shut the car off. Move my families car out of the driveway to store mine in the garage. I turn the key and the engine turn, start for a bit, stumbles and dies. I try pumping the gas while stubling and i can hear the suction from the filter and pop or gasp of air sound coming from filter. I turn the key i can hear the fuel pump running. My dad came out to help me out, what he was doing was turning the key on and off a few times to get fuel. When it engages i can hear the pump running till the car dies and pump stops.
I cant figure out whats wrong, with the car if it was running so smooth. I can hear the pump running so i know its the not the pump any ideas

Welcome to the forums!

Start by scanning for codes. Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test

Hearing the pump isn't enough to tell for sure that it's working properly, or fuel filter might be clogged, check fuel pressure.

I wake up getting ready to work on it, i turn the key and the car started right up and not acting funny just idling perfect. The one thing i do hear is a humming or long beep noise coming from the back

the noise you hear is the fuel pump operating normally. Everyone's fuel pump whines with these cars. i would change your fuel filter and make sure you do a full tune up and check up on the car alot if you are road racing with it, it is important for your vehicle to be in tip top shape its hard on a car.

you pump should only wine or buzz real quick while in the auxilery position with the key before turning the car on. If it continues to buzz it can be a hint that the pump wont last long.

i think i may know exactly what your problem is... you said it ran fine for a while and then you shut it off then couldnt get it started again? then in the morning it ran fine again. i had the same problem. took me months to figure out what it was. turns out it was the pip sensor in the dizzy. when it gets hot its starts acting screwy... once it cools off, everything is fine again. its a bitch to replace that sensor, just get a cheap rebuilt dizzy from the parts house and you shouldnt see this problem again. make sure when you replace the dizzy, you mark the rotor location and try to match the same angle of the connector in front of the dizzy so you will be pretty much "close" to the timing that you were at before. but i would still check it with a light to be sure

alright, i checked codes first set is 31, then the second set was 11. thanks for the welcome everyone feels cool just cruising on mustang. fateisajester i think your right too, my dad grab some ice into a plastic bag wrapped it around shop towel. When i was having the same problem again later in the afternoon. At first i thought it was the alarm so it was PITA removing it and connecting everything back again. My dad brought out the ice bag placed it against the sensor on the dizzy let it sit, i turn the key and started right up.
Replacing the module easy? its cuz i just paid of my class for next semester and im broke lol

its not the box on the outside of the dizzy, it a sensor INSIDE it... you have to pull the shaft out to replace it

if you're working on a budget, although it may not look very "cool", get some some of that conduit they use for clothes dryers on the exhaust vent at a hardware store. route it through your bumper somewhere and have the other end point at your dizzy... kinda like a ram air setup, only it will be blowing cool air on your dizzy. it may just keep it cool enough to function correctly

Did you mark where the rotor points on the dizzy? If not then you need to bump it to tdc and stab it in.
