nitrous

So i just bought a nitrous kit for my car and really am a beginner in this aspect of a power adder. does anyone know what i should do with timing i know i should retard the timing i think. it is a under carb plate system and has a gas solenoid and a nitrous solenoid so does that mean i do not have to turn the fuel pressure up becase it is going to dump more fuel when it is spraying. any help would be appreciated.

Before you do anything get this book so you can learn how nitrous works. SA Design SA50 - SA Design How to Install and Use Nitrous Oxide Injection for Maximum Horsepower – SummitRacing.com

Nitrous isn't a toy. If you screw up, bad things usually happen. Make sure you have a thourough understanding of how everything works before you even attempt to install the kit. After you read the book the directions should make more sense. Jetting, fuel pressure and timing will all be in the directions.

It’s not how you stand by your car. It’s how you race your car. You better learn that.

But seriously... what pill size shot? And i'd recommend getting fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, and a/f ratio guages.

seriously man buy the book and read it. There is alot to learn. Nitrous is awesome. I learned the hard way and i research the shit out of it now. It sounds like you have a wet kit. I would start at a hundred shot. I don't know how timing works on carb cars but i set mine at 10* with the spout out. And i run it with the spout in at 10* base on a hundred shot. I've noticed every car is different a little though so the best thing if your new in my book is to pony up 75 bucks bring some extra jets and hit the dyno. Spraying on the dyno to obtain high hp numbers is kinda gay but to get it tuned it's cool. my.o2

Yep all cars are difrent. I ran 16* 93octane with a 100 shot no problems, and yes the balancer was correct.

It took my bout 50 passes and 2 years to figure that out tho. Dont just set your timing there and go.

it takes you 50 passes and 2 years to figure out what you can run your timing at??? what did you start at 5* and bump it up .2* once every two weeks?

yes you have a wet kit, basic rule of thumb is retard 2* for every 50hp of nitrous, excluding the first 50hp. i run either 28* or 30* of timing on a 150 shot, i can't remember. i have my timing locked though, so do not set your timing to that unless you leave the spout out. you also need to read the plugs to see what's really going on...

That would be 57* base timing?

Well It started out as me leaving the car alone as far as mods go, going to the track, trying to get the car to run better times, once it seemed I couldn't improve any more I added a degree, ran a bunch of times, repeated....

Why would you run your timing locked?

I never retard any timing for anything under 100hp and I always run good fuel.

Prolly that little bolt with a clamp that holds the distributor tight... So you can't turn it anymore ya know?

Their is a connector on the distributor base that allows the computer to advance the timing calling the 'spout connector', If you remove that then the timing is locked at whatever base timing you have it set at.

110 octane fuel is about all you need on a small nitrous shot..

timing changes are ideal to be extra safe, but hell most foxes out there bump up factory timing 6/8 deg from stock with no pinging at all, so why can extra nitrous hurt.
