please help...

i have a couple of questions... first i have an 84 mustang gt... engine started smokin so i replaced with another. thing is i bout it off a guy for 300 hundred but he just told me he got it off a mustang but didnt tell me the year... well i know there is a roller motor and a non roller i need help figuring out the difference to find out if its a roller or not... ive dropped the engine in.. it turns on but too much fuel is droppin in the engine that it bogs out. i placed the four barrel carb off the 84 gt on it and i am figuring that to b the problem but i would like to b for sure.. also do 84 mustnags have a fuel pump inside the gas tank? i know the block i took out had a fuel pump up front that connected to the timing chain cover... which i put on the motor i dropped into the car.... need advice thanks

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

To tell if its a roller motor or not, you can look at the lifter valley and tell. 'Roller blocks' will be stamped with 'xxx' castings and have taller lifter bores. BUT, i've seen 'roller' blocks that don't have roller cams, but could be easily converted. For instance I have an 84 crown vic motor that has xxx castings and tall lifter bores, but it doesn't have a roller cam in it. However it does have the spider bosses to put roller lifters in the engine.

As far as your flooding problem goes, it would be wise to invest in a quality regualtor. You can get them for 30 bucks at summit racing. (I actually have one in my garage brand new I can sell you real cheap).

It prob needs a simple fuel bowl adjustment.

alright here goes another question...

well ok then its more than likely that the motor is a roller motor... now the question is that the 84 mustang has a fuel pump in the front where the timing chain is located it uses the eccentric on the camshaft to pump fuel. now im using the same setup on this roller motor... is there any difference should it make a difference? would that cause any issues???

It will be fine the 85 GT's came with rollers cams and mechanical fuel pump like you are talking about. No issues
