electric oil pressure gauge give up

ok ive been looking at this thing for 30 minutes with this expression . so i just want to know the kit i got has a bulbous looking sender unit i guess. the one on my car though does not look like this. I also want to know do i use the wiring coming from the stock unit to plug into my new oil pressure unit or no im so confused. Im afraid to run my car because of the horror stories of the stock gauge actually being correct. help please pics of wires to cut or where to run this thing through the firewall would be great.

Run it through the firewall where the hood latch cable goes through, You have to remove your old sending unit and either T it off (to run both), or the sending unit you bought should screw into the same hole..

ok so just remove the unit and screw the new unit into its place on the flat bar coming out of the block. got it

Now do i plug the old wire back into the new unit and disconnect it from the gauge thats what confusing me how do i get the signal from the unit to the new gauge im not worried about the gauge in the dash.

then what wire do i splice into to get power to the gauge. Im just worried about messing something up and shorting out my car thanks

Just disconnect the old sending unit and tape the old wiring up.

Run the harness wiring that came with the new gauge to the new sensor and back into the cabin into the gauge.

To get the power either use a multimeter and find a wire thats only in use when the car is running, OR go to a car parts store and buy an add-a-fuse and a 10 amp fuse and put it into the fuse block on an accessory that's on only when the car is running, and fuse it with a 10 amp'er and extend the circuit like that.

ok the gauge I bought doesnt have a wire to plug onto the sender unit only a wire to get power to the gauge i wasnt sure if the stock unit was supposed to be used

heres an idea i had if I use the new sender unit from the gauge and plug the old wire in it " so that way i would be using the stock gauge" would that at least let me know if the unit is bad and i have oil pressure and then finish the install later?

I seriously doubt that will work, People would probably just upgrade the sending units if that would make it more accurate in itself. I know one is basically a yes/no switch and one is accurate so the gauge im sure is tailored to that.

What make & model of gauge is this? It should have a spot for the wire, unless its a mechanical gauge and you have a sending unit from elsewhere

when installed mine i put the autometer sending unit on and the stock gauge wouldnt even work. i dont know why but it wouldnt. and the sending unit is not what makes the stock gauge less accurate, its the stock gauge.

for the power wire just tap into the ignition switch harness for anything that is hot when the key is on

its a sunpro sport st model its says that i have to run my own wire to the sender 18 guage and then run that through the firewall and then hook up the wires to a live source

so do i need to drain the oil as the instructions say or am i fine just hooking it all up now.

and no you dont have to drain the oil, just dont have the car running when you pull it off and you should spill any oil
