5.0 truck build
Hey guys, i havent been on here in almost 3 years, back when i planned on getting a mustang when i first started driving lol. but instead i got an old restored 66 F100 longbed that overtime iver gotten a shortbed chassis. And ive been on the hunt for a 302 H.O. like out of the late 80's early 90's Lincoln Mark 7's and 5.0 Stangs. my goal for my senior year in high school is to get this truck to run 13's in the 1/4... so ive got alot of work to do lol. I dont know a whole lot when it comes to building a 302 H.O. or if theres even a difference between it and a regular. but any tips, tricks, and help are always welcome!
If this doesnt really fit into the 5.0 Mustang forum then please move it. but its going to be powered by the heart of a 5.0 Stang! |

I know you want a 5.0 but I would go big block in that beast, mild 460 with nice cam and a set 3'' Flows on it . Beautiful truck

right now, and this is the way i bought the truck, its got a 400 big block with MSD M6A ignition thats not even setup right, 2 1/2 flowmaster super 40's, ford 9" and couple more things. id like to go small block power, light weight and fast. something i can get alot of RPM's out of and some gas milage, but i like the way you think! lol
and thanks Last edited by Travstang; August 9th, 2009 at 10:22 PM. |

thats gonna have tobe a nasty small block to push that truck into the 13's.
Id really look into a bigger motor to make the goal easier. You can get close to 400hp and 500ft lbs of torque from a mild 460 and that will sling shot that truck down the 1/4 mile. Plus it has the 400 already which means the mounts and trans can be reused. Just food for thought

your gonna need the torque of a big block or at least a well built 351 to move that beast. very nice truck dont get rid of it and please dont half ass the build thats not a truck you just throw away and buy another.

thanks guys i love it, the pic was from about a year and a half ago. the guy who built the truck did alot of things that were half ass. but it was the first one he'd ever built. the paint shows it and so does what underneath. i cant get rid of my first truck, let alone my first vehicle. the trans is a C6 and honestly... its the biggest POS tranny ive ever driven. the 9" has either 3.70 or 3.73 gear, and ill be slappin a 4 speed out of a late 80's ford in there too. but with the motor issues, ive thought about boring and stroking, OR (my personal favorite) twin turbo! (or one will work too) lol.

I believe Kaase or Kuntz won an engine builders challenge using a 400 ford motor.

haha its cool Domindart gotta mess with you a little bit! hey Struck can you give me some details on the 408?
the tranny i plan on stickin in is a 4 speed out of a 80's F150 that a friend of mine is selling me, but if i can find a car 4 speed or 5 speed ill go for that. but the C6 thats in it is shit, to honest. id really like to get standard back in my driveway lol, since my S10 Xtreme got sold its no fun with an automatic

This is one of the more popular places on this forum, I prefer a shop close to home so I have never had anything done by them.
FordStrokers.com 331-347-393-408-418-427 stroker kits and ford parts.

if its a 4 speed from a truck, be careful, it might/prob gonna have a granny 1st which means in actuality its a 3 speed. 1st gear is all but useless unless you are pulling big loads

Yeah unless you are in a really worked 4x4 and do some heavy wheeling or rock crawling you want to stay AWAY from a granny box....
