home made catch can
Well the cars running good. I think it's making roughly 12psi. I assume for it to go to 14psi in the winter, but it's pulling GREAT! I need a catch can though. Pcv in the back is still connected. I took the crankcase line from the filler neck off the intake manifold. I learned the hard way when it pushed my dipstick out on the dyno and almost lit the car on fire. And home made remmedys? And how to hook them up as well? The car gets a little oil in the pipes, and I will be boosting it often now that its running good, and I want to keep things clean.

with pushrods it is a good idea to vent both sides as each head builds up crankcase pressure whereas the newer mod motors the heads are connected together via the timing chain cover thus the whole thing is building up crankcase pressure and only one side is needed to be vented.
catch cans pretty much replace the PCV system which draws in unburnt gas back into the intake to be reburnt. it is an emissions thing. Now the PCV system also draws in vaporized oil that flows with the air and it goes back into your intake system gumming up valves, coating your manifold, and coating up your TB. the catch can pretty much acts like a baffle where the vaporized oil and air enter the can, the air passes through but the vaporized oil stays at the bottom of the can via gravity and prevents the oil from entering back into the intake. It is also known to help with detonation as the vaporized oil, when entered back into the intake and mixed with the gas, can reduce your ocatane.

thanks for the reps. they hook up into each valve cover. you can do it that way or you can just use open element breathers and vent directly to the atmosphere. this is what I did with my old fox. The only downfall about the breathers is that you may tend to see smoke come out of your breathers, depending on the condition of your engine, and some oil may make its way onto your pretty valve covers. there are a whole bunch of ways to vent the crankcase pressure. the old school guys used to have them vented into the exhaust manifold, cap on holes with tubing or piping leading to a fixture on the manifolds, so that it gets burnt up. Cmy4D and myself are acutally going to be doing an electric evactuation pump that will kick in as soon as the car cuts on and pull all that stuff into a closed catch can with a baffle.

Ok that post from svtp was great, but I don't own a drill.
With the ebay catch can I'd prob ditch the clear hose it comes with and just get to hoses from home depot. But were do I hook the hoeses up to exactly?

yeah you can. I dont know what type of hose they use at home depot but make sure you get the ones that are compatible with gas and oil. you can just to to your autoparts store and pick up the amount of hose you need and they are relatively cheap.
you will hook up a line into the catch can then you will have a "T" connection at the end that will split off into 2 hoses leading into your valve cover/covers PCV connection. if youve only got one then you will just need one.

only have one. I could tap the other side soon. But do I connect it to were the old vacuum line went on the filler neck? I assume it would use that vacuum to get the oil into the catch can.

now that I remember, your PCV is on the back of the lower manifold and then has a hose running into the bottom of the upper manifold. you will take a cap and cap off the one on the upper manifold and then have a line running from your PCV to the catch can. also, IIRC, the one on the filler neck leads into the TB, correct? If so you can run a line from there to the catch can as well.
